Substitute Circulation Clerk Russiaville
The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is seeking someone who loves interacting with the public, is approachable, and has excellent customer service skills to fill the position of Substitute Circulation Clerk at KHCPL Russiaville (with the possibility of subbing at our South and Main branches as well). This position needs a friendly, flexible individual whose primary duty will be checking materials in and out at a public service desk. Potential candidates should demonstrate the following soft skills: time management, effective communication, attention to detail, active listening, critical thinking, conflict resolution, teamwork, pressure management, flexibility, empathy, and organization.Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent. Head Custodian
The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is proud of our immaculate facilities and is seeking a Head Custodian to help us keep our distinguished reputation by leading our team of custodians. This position will include great annual, sick, and holiday benefits in addition to excellent health insurance, retirement, and life insurance. The hours include evenings and weekends. The rate starts at $20.57/hour. Requirements are a high school diploma or equivalent, 3 years relevant experience, and a valid driver's license. As well as strong supervisory and scheduling experience along with an attention to detail. The primary responsibilities are staff supervision, scheduling, task prioritization, operating within budget constraints, and basic custodial duties. These include opening/closing the library, floor care, cleaning, stocking vending machines, and courier duties. We will begin to review applications on Monday, January 20.

Head of Genealogy and Local History
We are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable individual to lead our Genealogy and Local History department. As the Head of Genealogy and Local History, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, management, and promotion of genealogy and local history collections, services, and programs. You will lead a team of dedicated staff, collaborate with community partners, and contribute to the overall mission of preserving and sharing local heritage. Other key responsibilities will include:
• Overseeing the acquisition, digitization, and preservation of genealogy and local history materials, including the Howard County Memory Project.
• Developing and implementing innovative programs and events that engage the community in local history and genealogy.
• Providing expert advice and support to individuals researching their family history and local heritage.
• Maintaining and developing digital resources to make collections accessible to a wider audience.
• Staying informed about applicable emerging trends.
• Managing departmental budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
Qualifications include an MLS or MLIS, experience working with the public, and a valid driver’s license with supervisory experience strongly preferred. The position is 40 hrs./week; benefits include health and life insurance, Indiana Public Retirement System, paid leave time, and ten paid holidays. Entry-level salary for minimum qualifications starts at $25.96/hr. Safety and Security Officer
The Kokomo-Howard County Public Library is proud of our safe and secure Main Branch and our other facilities and is seeking a Safety & Security Officer to help us keep our distinguished reputation. We have a 20-hour part-time position available, and the hours will include evenings and weekends. The pay rate starts at $15.31/hour. Requirements are a high school diploma or equivalent, 1-year relevant experience, and a valid driver's license. The primary responsibilities are day-to-day conflict resolution; along with patrolling and monitoring hallways, stairwells, toilet facilities, outside areas surrounding facilities, and other public and nonpublic areas of the library. Also, enforcing library policies and filing incident reports while maintaining an inviting environment for our patrons, working with local law enforcement as needed, and assisting staff with directing patrons in emergency situations.

Page and Clerical Positions:
Applications for library page and clerical positions are accepted at all times, even when there are no openings, and are kept active for six months. An application may be filled out at any library location, or Apply Online.
Library Page: Part-time. Starting wage is $11.00 / hour. Days and hours of work vary. In most page positions, the primary responsibility is shelving books. Other duties might include shelf reading, locating materials, affixing labels on new materials, covering paperbacks, filing, and occasionally assisting patrons.
Library Clerk: Part-time. Starting wage is $13.64 / hour. Days and hours of work vary. Clerks perform tasks in many library departments. Duties range from processing new library materials, library card registration, collecting library fines and assisting patrons with checking out.
Pre-Employment Screening Requirements:
KHCPL has a vital interest in maintaining safe, legal and efficient working conditions for its employees and patrons. Therefore, following a job offer, all applicants must successfully complete a drug screening and background check prior to employment. If the position requires driving a library vehicle, a good driving record is necessary.
