In today's society people are hit with a lot of news. People have 24 hour news on TV, radio and the internet. There are times it gets too much and you just want the news that is important to you. The Flipboard app can help you with that. Once you log into Flipboard, you will be promtped to choose the topics you are interested in.
Once you have selected the topics that interest you, you can then "flip" through them on your device.
Another cool feature of Flipboard is you can create your own "magazines" of articles that interest you. You can then share them with other people. If you don't want to do that, you can follow other magazines people have made. Here is a link to a magazine I created. Feel free to follow https://flipboard.com/@avlibrarian/passions-of-an-avlibrarian-3jhinos4y
So if you would like to control the news you consume, give Flipboard a try.

Recently, my son received his first musical instrument, a guitar, and is now taking music lessons. I was in band years ago and was trying to help him read music and practice. Unfortunately, I kept running into the problem where he would rush some parts of the music and slow down in others. Then I remembered using a metronome. I didn't have access to a metronome, so I did the next best thing. I checked the app store. I had recently discovered apps that will help you tune your guitar (they're not perfect, but work on the fly), and I thought maybe the app store has a metronome app too. It does. The app is called Pro Metronome and it is a free download from the App Store or Google Play. This handy little app lets you adjust the tempo, the sound of the metronome (13 different sounds), and the musical time. It will even allow you to set a timer for how long you want to practice, and more. Better yet it was free. There is an upgraded version that has even more features, but the basic version suited my needs.

I recently changed internet service providers and as a result, I got another e-mail address. This brought me to a grand total of 3 email accounts. I wanted to find an app for my phone that would manage all three accounts. I did some research and found the BlueMail app. I really like it a lot. It will manage multiple accounts. You can view the accounts individually or you can unify them into one big account. Another nice feature of BlueMail is you can cluster your e-mails into groups. All the emails from people can be in one group and all the emails from businesses can be in another. You make email groups that will allow you to send an email to multiple people without having to enter everybody's email addresses.
So if you are looking for a new app for your email, give BlueMail a try.

Earlier this year, Overdrive rolled out a new app to hopefully replace their Overdrive app. Her name is Libby. We have had Overdrive as our e-book and downloadable audio book resource for several years and during that time we have seen many changes. When I first saw that we were again getting a new app for Overdrive I was concerned, but I shouldn't have been, because Libby is AMAZING. Overdrive has made the Libby app so easy to use. Unlike the previous versions of the Overdrive app, Libby requires no registration! Let me say that again because it is very important: NO REGISTRATION! All you need to do with Libby is locate your library and sign in using your library card number and password/pin number. That's it! Super easy and you are off to checking out books and audio books. Not only that, but if you have multiple devices signed into Libby Libby will also allow you to sync books between multiple devices using the Libby app as long as they are signed in with the same library card number. Also, if you share your device with other family members, Libby will easily switch between library cards. Libby makes using Overdrive easy!
Overdrive recently blogged about their new app in the article 12 Tips For Getting the Most Out of Libby. The article gives you tips to help you take advantage of some of Libby's great features. Not only that, but Libby can help you track your reading history, the article Getting the Most Out of Your OverDrive Reading History tells you how that can work for you! I have been really impressed with the improvements I have seen from Overdrive this year, and I can't wait to see what they are doing next.
Libby is currently compatible with the following operating systems:
- iOS 9+
- Android 4.4+
- Windows 10 (for desktops/tablets and mobile), versions 1607 (Anniversary Update) and 1703 (Creator's Update)
